A competency is any skill or ability that is needed to be successful in your position. Delegation is an extremely important competency. As multi-unit managers, it's important to be able to work effectively through others. In order to do that, it's necessary to be skilled at delegation. Being Skilled at delegation means that you will: * Clearly and comfortably delegate both routine and important tasks * Broadly share both responsblity and accountability * Tends to trust people to perform * Lets direct reports and others finish their work On the other hand, there are some managers who overuse the delegation skill and thus may over delegate without providing enough direction to others. Those who overuse delegation may also have unrealistic expectations or micromanage others limiting their creative freedom to get the job done.
